Uniting for change: Relationships Australia first federated member

As a membership-based organisation, EAAA is always looking for ways to enhance the member experience and add value to our members. For this reason, we decided to develop a federated membership model for organisations that may have several offices around Australia.

Discussions between Bev Lange (EAAA Executive Officer), James Thomas (EAAA Membership Coordinator), and Nick Tebbey (National Executive Officer, Relationships Australia) have culminated in Relationships Australia being the first organisation to take advantage of our new federated membership model.

This model encompasses Relationships Australia’s Head Office in Canberra and eight offices around Australia.

Why did we adopt a federated model?

Member organisations may have offices in various Australian States and Territories. This means that each office could act autonomously. However, we recognised that this may not be in the best interests of the organisation since it may not represent a single, unified approach in terms of advocacy and voting.

By developing the federated model, we’re giving our member organisations the option to speak with a single voice, in line with their corporate guidelines.

In addition, there is substantial goodwill to be garnered by adopting this model, signalling that the organisation as a whole is committed to speaking out about the abuse of older Australians.

And of course, there is a significant financial advantage for organisations to adopt a federated membership.

“During our discussions with Nick, it became clear that a federated model would make sense for Relationships Australia,” explained James. “Since Nick was open to the idea, we developed a specific proposal for them which was ratified at their next meeting. We were delighted with the level of interest and commitment demonstrated by Relationships Australia”.

A perfect partnership

Relationships Australia is a leading provider of relationship support services for individuals, families, and communities. EAAA is dedicated to preventing and responding to elder abuse, advocating for the rights and well-being of older Australians.

Our missions align seamlessly since both organisations recognise the importance of promoting healthy and respectful relationships across all ages and communities.

Strong connections, communication, and support systems are fundamental to preventing elder abuse and ensuring the well-being of older individuals.

“Relationships Australia values the work that EAAA does and acknowledges its pivotal role in the campaign to end elder abuse in Australia. We are proud to take up this opportunity for membership as a Federation and look forward to working alongside our colleagues at EAAA now and into the future.”

Nick Tebbey, National Executive Officer

We’re excited about the possibilities that this partnership presents and look forward to continuing to work with Relationships Australia. And we are grateful for their dedication to protecting older Australians and ensuring their safety and dignity.
