EAAA provides submission to Aged Care Bill 2024

EAAA was pleased to have the opportunity to provide input to the Aged Care Bill 2024.
We provided the following five recommendations which are the highest priority issues but are not inclusive of all thoughts on the legislation:

  1. Civil Penalties to be replaced with Criminal Penalties with particular reference
    to Section 180.
  2. Mechanisms to be put in place to ensure that the rights outlined in the
    Statement of Rights are enforceable.
  3. The addition of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Peoples (UNDRIP) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
(ICCPR) to the international treaties and obligations referenced within the Bill.
  4. An increased focus on inclusivity and wellbeing within the Bill rather than a
medicalised focus on solely ‘sickness’ and ‘impairment’.
  5. Expanded eligibility criteria to accommodate individuals experiencing
    accelerated ageing.
