The Draft National Plan to End the Abuse and Mistreatment of Older People 2024–2034 represents a long-overdue commitment to addressing elder abuse in Australia. However, without stronger measures, adequate funding and clear accountability, the plan risks falling short.
A recent article in The Guardian has highlighted a concerning trend: older women are increasingly victims of domestic and family violence homicides. This growing crisis is not limited to intimate partner violence - many older women are also experiencing abuse from adult children and other relatives.
The Attorney-General’s Department has released the consultation draft of the second National Plan to End the Abuse and Mistreatment of Older People 2024-2034.
Over the coming weeks, EAAA will be evaluating the draft and connecting with our members to formulate a response.
